Head Facilitator — Equine Facilitated Leadership Program

Queen Margaret's School is looking for a part-time Head Facilitator — Equine Facilitated Leadership Program to provide leadership for the Queen Margaret's School Equine Facilitated Leadership Development program. The Head Facilitator is responsible for overseeing the Equine Facilitated Leadership Development (EFLD) program. In collaboration with the Equestrian Program Director, this position is responsible for the development, well being and safety of EFLD staff, students, and equine teachers at the school.

All applicants for this position will be expected to agree to have a Criminal Record Check initiated by Queen Margaret's School.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership of the Equine Facilitated Leadership Development program, focusing on EFLD programming for all students
  • In collaboration with the Equestrian Program Director, design and implement innovative EFLD programming
  • Oversee the development goals, objectives and lesson plans for all students in the EFLD program
  • Oversee student assessment and compile feedback for reporting, in collaboration with the Head Coach — Equestrian Program
  • Maintain good working relationships with experts in the EFW industry to ensure our educational facility is a leader in the industry
  • Prepare and maintain relevant data and statistics on all aspects of the EFLD program; intepret data and generate reports as required for the Equestrian Program Director
  • Maintain current records and forms involving student profiles, as relevant to the EFLD program
  • Ensure horses are adequately prepared for EFLD sessions, including but not limited to appropriate equipment and facilities, awareness of external factors affecting the horse, appropriate student/horse pairings, and appropriate horse workload before, during and in between sessions
  • Ensure all safety regulations and general policies and procedures are followed by students and staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The following are requirements for this position:

  • EFW-Can Certification (EFLP or MHP) or equivalent with intention of immediately fulfilling EFW-Can Certification
  • EFW-Can Dual Certified as Equine Professional or EFW-Can Level Three Equine Expertise
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the mental health or education field with a focus on leadership
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the equine facilitated wellness field
  • Experience organizing and facilitating EFW activities for groups and individuals
  • Level 1 First Aid certification
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Excellent management skills
  • Proven ability to take personal responsibility for quality of work
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate and develop relationships with a wide array of stakeholders (students, parents, colleagues, community members, etc.)
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong learning relationships through the provision of a safe and trusting learning environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively differentiate and be responsive to student needs
  • Experience, sensitivity and awareness of working within a multicultural environment
  • Willingness to embrace the ethos of an independent school

Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following qualifications:

  • BC Teaching Certification or equivalent; or Canadian Certified Counsellor designation or equivalent
  • Background in Leadership or Leadership Studies
  • Background in one or more of the following areas: Social Justice, Environmental Stewardship, and/or Entrepreneurial Thinking

Working Conditions:

  • Periodic evening and weekend availability required for community events
  • Scheduling and completion of project work outside of regular office hours may be required 
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Meals are included as a taxable benefit
  • Some heavy lifting and carrying may be required
