Queen Margaret’s School is looking for a dedicated equestrian student to be an Equestrian Intern for 2018-19 School Year. There is 1 position available.

Equestrian Interns work 5 days per week (more during scheduled weekend horse shows). Duties include barn chores, turning out horses, light maintenance tasks, assisting coaches, as well as riding horses. Students work in a group environment in exchange for their training, room and board. Lessons may be on their own horses or a school horse.

All applicants for this position will be expected to agree to have a Criminal Record Check initiated by Queen Margaret’s School. 


  • Clean stalls/shelters as assigned. Ensure all barn areas are neat and tidy.
  • Lunge and ride QMS School Horses as needed.
  • Grooming and tacking up horses for coaches.
  • Assist students and coaches as required.
  • Feed and water horses according to schedule.
  • Turn horses in and out.
  • Clean paddocks and water tubs as assigned.
  • Maintain vigilance on horses’ health and inform Barn Manager of any concerns.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • Be in good physical condition (lifting and carrying involved in the duties).
  • Possess a positive attitude and work as a team player.
  • Be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Be willing to attend and practice training provided by the school.


  • Experience with horses in a stable environment
  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Excellent organizational skills (competitions, etc.)
  • Experience, sensitivity and awareness of working within a multicultural environment

Working conditions

  • Day, evening, weekend and possible overnight work required
  • Some heavy lifting and carrying (hay bales, etc.) may be required
